How to Listen to Yourself (Even When It Goes Against What’s Expected)

By society’s standards, I’m behind.
By my own standards, I’ve never felt more at peace.

I once thought peace would arrive if I just ticked all the boxes: the wedding, the house, the milestones that prove you’re “on track.” But instead, I felt trapped, uneasy, and deeply disconnected from myself. Because there’s so much more to peace than ticking boxes.

Most of us were taught what the boxes should be, but not how to discern if we’re choosing the right ones for us. And when we don’t know how to do that, it’s easy to fall into a cycle of thinking, “I don’t trust myself.”

We outsource decisions to what others expect, hoping that will bring peace, only to feel more lost and confused inside.

Why It’s So Hard to Listen to Yourself

It’s not just the big decisions like where to live or who to share your life with. Every day, you’re faced with moments of choice, and each one is an invitation to either listen to yourself or go along with what’s expected. Over time, a life built on meeting expectations instead of honouring your own truth becomes death by a thousand paper cuts.

Discernment — that deep, embodied knowing of what’s right for you — doesn’t just magically appear. Especially not in a culture that rewards compliance and punishes sovereignty. It comes when you peel back what was never truly yours: the conditioning, the unresolved experiences, the survival patterns your body still carries.

How Self-Trust Is Built

Building self-trust isn’t about “just being more confident.” It’s a somatic process — one that happens when your body begins to feel safe enough to follow its own signals, even if they go against the script you were taught to follow.

This is why so many women I work with describe a sense of relief when they learn how to listen to themselves again. Because peace doesn’t live in the external milestones, it lives in your body, when you build the capacity to follow your heart and instincts, even when it’s uncomfortable.

And it is never, ever too late to begin.

Living From Your Body’s Wisdom

This is the kind of transformation I support women to experience inside my 3-month somatic coaching program. If you’re ready to live from your body’s wisdom and to have your own back 100% of the time, instead of being ruled by fear, self-doubt, or self-abandonment, the first step is booking your introductory session here.

P.S. Your body already knows what truth feels like. My role is helping you build the safety and capacity to trust it — every single time.
